The Cateye Difference The Cateye Difference

In our pursuit of the perfect workout, Cateye fitness products now incorporate many exclusive features. These features, developed by Cateye, are protected by a number of Global patents. This means that Many of our best features Are not found on any other fitness products available on the market today.

A word about resistance mechanisms

A word about resistance mechanisms
The patented Cateye Electromagnetic Disc Brake resistance mechanism is not a simple adaptation of an automobile alternator but rather a precision instrument. Our system uses a disk with integrated cooling fins; this disk passes through an electron magnet. The onboard microprocessor controls the power supply to the magnet in order to increase or decrease the load you experience at the pedal. The cooling fins on the disk keep the temperature of the entire mechanism to within a tight tolerance of 3 degrees Celsius even under the heaviest loads. This is the source of the consistent accuracy and loading stability of Cateye Fitness products. When the pedal crank rpm is a normal 60 RPM the "Brake Disk" spins at an amazing 1400 RPM. This is by design and ensures the pedal load is evenly distributed throughout the entire 360 degree rotation of the pedal cranks.

A word about pulse monitors

A word about pulse monitors
Accuracy, comfort and convenience are all part of the patented Cateye pulsimeter. Our system uses a photo-optic transmitter/receiver in a convenient earlobe clip. The signal is the sent to the microprocessor where a two stage "filter" cleans the signal prior to readout. The end result is a user friendly pulse monitor that provides the accuracy of the best of the cumbersome chest strap type monitors. The Cateye pulsimeter is accurate to within 2 heartbeats per minute at 200 beats per minute.

A word about Class A Ergometers

A word about Class A Ergometers
European standard EN 957-5 for Ergometers is established and monitored by the European Committee for Standardization. There are three class levels of the EN 957-5 Standard A, B and C. Those Ergometers rated Class B or C must be labeled "Not Suitable for Therapeutic Purposes" when sold in Europe. To be rated as Class A, an Ergometer must achieve a top level of accuracy. The actual work rate in watts must precisely match the Ergometer's computer readout on a consistent and repeated basis at multiple load levels. Cateye Fitness Ergocisers are classified Class A Ergometers. Each Cateye Fitness Ergometer is calibrated at the time of manufacture to assure that our patented Disk Brake resistance system and the onboard computer are in perfect sync.

A word about Fitness Testing

A word about Fitness Testing
Several models of Cateye Fitness Ergocisors offer the user an aerobic power measurement test. This test is made possible and accurate by our powerful onboard computers. This ten minute test uses the rider's age, sex, weight and heart rate as compared to work rate. This data is calculated and the work level adjusted at three different stages during the test to determine overall fitness level. Upon completion of the test the computer reports the riders fitness level on a 1 to 5 scale and projects the maximum work rate in watts required for the rider to reach the upper limit of his or her heart rate training capacity. Additionally, the computer reports the user's Maximum Oxygen Uptake MOU (the body's ability transfer oxygen from the air to the blood stream) using the American Heart Association Tables of Oxygen Uptake.

A word about Recumbent Ergometers

A word about Recumbent Ergometers
When we developed the Cateye Fitness Recumbent Ergocisers we wanted them to comfortably accommodate people of all types and abilities. These ideas lead to our patented vertically adjustable recumbent design. With the seat of a Cateye Recumbent in a high position the pedal crank axle is level with or just below the hip. This position allows ease of mount and dismount and produces a "normal" cardiovascular workout. With the seat of a Cateye Recumbent in a low position the pedal crank axle is above the level of the hip. This works a different set of muscles and increases the cardiovascular work rate during your workout and provides even the fittest athletes with a challenging workout.

A word about the importance of data

A word about the importance of data
There is a considerable amount of data for the user to input into the computer of a Cateye Fitness product by the user. By doing so this allows you to experience the maximum benefits offered by the most technologically advanced fitness equipment on the market. Our desire to make this process both quick and easy lead to yet another patented Cateye feature, the Data Card System. Your "user profile" and your favorite workout can be permanently and easily pre-programmed on a Data Card. Cateye Fitness products that feature the Data Card system come with a supply of cards and instructions for programming to accommodate multiple users and or workout profiles.
